Descending into the deepest cavern in North Africa.
Difficulty
Hard
Duration

The Story
The Friouato shaft swallows light. 271 metres straight down, beyond a staircase carved into the chasm, the cavern opens into chambers that have never been fully mapped — chambers where speleologists still find Roman coins and Neolithic teeth.
History
Locals believed Friouato led to the underworld. The first scientific descent was led by Norbert Casteret in 1934.
