The Story
At 4,167 metres, Toubkal looks down on a continent. The climb is a vertical journey through five climate zones — argan scrub, juniper forest, alpine meadow, scree, and finally, a wind-scoured summit where shepherds left offerings before there was a name for the mountain.
History
The Almoravids crossed these passes in 1062 to conquer Marrakech. Their stone watchposts still stand at 3,200 metres.
